Ken has lived in Arkansas since January 1994. He makes a living working at US Motors in Mena, Arkansas. His dad, Richard Vonk, bought him his first lathe and passed on to him the love for woodturning. Ken loves bringing out the different colors, textures, and stories hidden inside exotic and native woods. He turns bowls, boxes, hollow forms and items such as pens and duck calls. Ken has taken lessons from other woodturning artists such as Wally Dickerman and Alan Lacer, and has been lucky enough to learn from his dad. He believes his artistic gift is from God, so most pieces have been inspired from and are named after Bible verse or stories. When people see his pieces he hopes they feel the urge to pick them up and touch them. Some pieces in his collection have been turned from the trees that fell April 9th, 2009 when a tornado struck his hometown.
Ken is most passionate about woodturning, but also has a love of photography. Ken has won local awards for both woodturning and photography. Ken is a member of the American Association of Wood turners and a member of the Central Arkansas Wood Turners Association. His work is displayed at Gallery 726 in Hot Springs, Arkansas. |
